Letters to Publisher of the Independent, Mr. Monroe, and Mrs. Lilla Day Monroe, 1897 November 18, 1907 January 6, 1907 January 14, 1924 May 22.

November 18, 1897, letter requests the return of his manuscript entitled "A College boy again," which he had sent to the Independent in April 1896. January 6, 1907, letter is a note enclosed with a manuscript, "which may or may not be suitable for the Club member." January 14, 1907, letter thanks Mrs. Monroe for her kind reply for the sketch he has sent [on January 6, 1907]. Then, he says he has not forgotten the matter of the "inartistic" and "suggestive" billboards, which he says is within the scope of the Federation to remove. In May 22, 1924, letter, Sheldon is back in Topeka, but writing on Christian Herald stationary (he was still an editor at that time). He is enclosing an article on "compulsory pagan teaching in our schools." He is concerned that we are educating our children on "the worship of war" and "literary sharpness and vulgarity" and not the life of Christ. He wonders why parents do not complain more, arguing they would not send their children to school if they were fed "dangerous articles of food."
